In this Blog Post, I share with you How to Make a Rechargeable & Portable 12V DC Fan Making At Home. It is a very easy process but component selection is most important. The most important part is the proper motor speed controller & proper 12 Volt DC motor selection. In this project, I am using PWM 12-40V 12V DC Motor Speed Controller 10A Adjustable DC Motor Speed Regulator Controller CVT Switches.

Motor Selection

When selecting the best 12V DC motor for making a fan, several factors should be considered to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. First, determine the power requirements based on the desired airflow and size of the fan blades. Look for a motor with an appropriate RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) to achieve the desired speed, and ensure it offers sufficient torque to overcome resistance. Consider the motor's efficiency, size, and weight to ensure compatibility with your fan design. Additionally, prioritize durability, noise level, and any additional features such as variable speed control or thermal protection. By carefully evaluating these factors and conducting thorough research, you can choose a 12V DC motor that meets your specific needs and delivers reliable performance for your DIY fan project.

Required Materials:

  • 1. 12V DC motor (choose one with suitable power for your fan)
  • 2. Lithium-ion 12V battery pack
  • 3. Fan blades
  • 3. Switch
  • 4. Wires
  • 5. PWM 12-40V DC Motor Speed Controller
  • 6. Soldering iron
  • 7. 12V Battery charger
  • 8. Enclosure (optional but recommended for safety)

Enclosure:

There are many ways to make Enclouse But I am using PVC Pipe. Here is a Reference video for easy understanding.

  1. Step-by-Step Assembly Process:

    • 1. Connect the DC motor to the battery pack securely using wires and soldering.
    • 2. Attach the fan blades to the motor shaft, ensuring they are balanced for optimal performance.
    • 3. Install a switch to control the fan's on/off function conveniently.
    • 4. Test your fan to ensure proper functionality before finalizing the assembly.

  2. Personalize Your Fan:

    • 1. Get creative with the design and appearance of your fan by customizing its enclosure.
    • 2. Consider 3D printing a unique housing or repurposing household items for a one-of-a-kind look.
    • 3. Ensure the enclosure provides adequate ventilation to prevent overheating.

  3. Charge and Enjoy:

    • 1. Use a compatible battery charger to recharge your fan's lithium-ion battery pack.
    • 2. Enjoy the cooling breeze of your DIY rechargeable fan wherever you go, knowing you've crafted it yourself!

  4. Maintenance Tips for Longevity:

    • 1. Regularly inspect and tighten any loose connections to prevent malfunctions.
    • 2. Keep the fan blades clean from dust and debris to maintain airflow efficiency.
    • 3. Store your fan in a cool, dry place when not in use to extend its lifespan.
